Sweet Studio News

Hello sweet friends,
I’ve had such a beautiful flood of inquiries and phone calls lately about creative offerings at Sey Studios, and I just want to pause and say thank you. I am so incredibly grateful for the continued love and support from our Bakersfield community. This is truly my job and my joy...and I never take that for granted.
Behind the scenes, the studio has been humming in a quieter, softer way too. Lately, I’ve been working on a new handful of bird-inspired paintings. I’m pretty sure it’s no coincidence that I recently became an aunt again; this time to a sweet niece named Robin. There’s something about birds that feels like hope, gentleness, and freedom all wrapped into one, and that energy has been finding its way onto the canvas.

What’s been especially meaningful is how I’ve been painting.
For so long, much of my work has been created with a purpose attached—commissions, gallery shows, deadlines, and deliverables. All wonderful things, but recently I gave myself permission to paint with no pressure. Just space to play… the same thing I encourage in every class and workshop I teach.
And wow, I’ve never felt more free!
I’ll often put on music and just let the brush move. Lately the soundtrack has been a mix of Forest Frank, Perry Como, and Bossa Nova (I know… such a variety, but I love a lot)! Last month it was rock and Celtic music. I’ve been letting the rhythm guide the flow, focusing less on outcome and more on being present in the moment.
These quiet painting sessions have reminded me why I fell in love with creating in the first place. They’ve been grounding, joyful, and deeply nourishing and I’m excited to let that energy ripple into everything I offer at the studio.
Thank you for being here, for cheering me on, and for making it possible for me to keep creating, teaching, and sharing art with this community I love so much.
