February Art Classes & Workshops Open!

February Art Classes & Workshops Open!

I was in second grade when I had the thought to teach. How fun would it be to have a whole collection of art supplies, and get to make art all day for others. When I was growing up, we didn't get to have an art every day... and I figured when I grew up, I would offer it because we need more people to teach the next generation how to use all these amazing things, to create, to make, and use their imaginations to change our world and make it more beautiful.

Well, I got deep into creating and learning how to do those things on my own for a bit... then I became a mom, and I saw a need that I wanted to fill. And my when second child was barely walking...I finally opened up the thought to teaching art but on my own!

I taught my first class at a theater

Yep, it actually wasn't in a traditional space. I was running a pop up gallery during First Friday's Art Walk inside Bakersfield's Fox Theater. It was Spring of 2018 and I had a fun idea to see if parents would want to bring their kids to make some art and see how a gallery works and learn about present day artists. Put a little thing together and posted it in a local mom's group on FB and before I knew it... it sold out.

Did I panic over the sheer shock of it?

Maybe a little, but it's exactly what I wanted to do.

The people who came were absolutely amazing. The kids were so kind. It was my first real experience with the homeschool community. But my life was forever changed.
